  1. HomeCraft Conversion Utility

  4. Converts MYDATA files to the ORGANIZE! format.
  5.  
  6. To convert data files created by the MYDATA software you will first
  7. need to use the MYDATA software to create a "disk file."  Start the
  8. MYDATA software and load the file you want to convert.  Then follow
  9. these steps:
  10.  
  11. 1) Push F5 to display the "Print Format" menu.
  12.  
  13. 2) Move the highlight bar to the bottom selection, "Printer
  14. Setting" and push ENTER.
  15.  
  16. 3) The "Printer Setting" window will open.  Push the down cursor
  17. key until the cursor is on the "Disk File" line and then push
  18. ENTER.  Then push F10 to accept this setting.  This will return
  19. control to the "Print Format" menu.
  20.  
  21. 4) Move the highlight bar to "Reports" and push ENTER.  This will
  22. open the "Reports" window in the middle of the screen.  Be sure
  23. that there is a checkmark in the "Print" column for each field.  If
  24. there are some fields without checkmarks, use the up/down cursor
  25. keys to put the cursor on the line for a field with no checkmark
  26. (the cursor must be in the "Print" column) and then push the space
  27. bar.

  29. 5) Press F10 to start printing.  A window, titled "Print To Disk"
  30. will open.  The prompt in the window will say "Enter disk file
  31. name:" and "OUT.TXT" will already be entered.  Unless you are using
  32. OUT.TXT for something else (in which case you just need to type in
  33. a new filename), push ENTER to accept it as the filename.

  35. 6) The next window will show the start and stop record numbers.  Be
  36. sure these are set to include your entire MYDATA database.  Then
  37. push F10.  If you get a prompt that says, "Report width exceeds 80
  38. characters," push "Y" to tell the software to use compressed print.
  39.  
  40. 7) When the main MYDATA screen reappears, push F6 to exit.  If you
  41. do not have a DOS prompt on the screen, (eg. Windows is running) do
  42. whatever is needed to get a DOS prompt on the screen.

  44. 8) Now you need to go to the drive and directory containing the
  45. ORGANIZE! software.  If, for example, ORGANIZE! is on the "C" drive
  46. and in a directory called OYC, you need to type the following at
  47. the DOS prompt:  CD \OYC  and then push ENTER.

  49. 9) Once in the directory containing the ORGANIZE! software, you
  50. need to install the conversion utility.  If the conversion utility
  51. is already installed, go on to step 10.

  53. The filename for the conversion utility is MYDATA.EXE.  Copy this
  54. file to the directory containing the ORGANIZE! software.  If you
  55. received the conversion utility on a floppy disk, put that disk in
  56. the "A" disk drive.  (If it goes in the "B" drive, just substitute
  57. the letter "B" for "A" throughout these instructions).  Then type
  58. the following:  COPY A:MYDATA.EXE  and then push ENTER.

  60. 10) Now type:  MYDATA  and push ENTER.  A prompt will appear on the
  61. screen asking you to enter the drive, path and filename for the
  62. MYDATA disk file.  For example, if the MYDATA program is on the "C"
  63. drive and in a directory called "MYDATA" and you used OUT.TXT as
  64. the disk file name, you would enter:  C:\MYDATA\OUT.TXT and push
  65. ENTER.

  67. 11) The MYDATA file will be converted and placed in a catalog file
  68. called CONVT.  Start the ORGANIZE! software.  When the Main Screen
  69. appears, push ALT-U for the Utilities Menu.  Highlight the bottom
  70. selection, "Select Catalog" and push ENTER.  Then put the highlight
  71. bar on CONVT and push ENTER.  Your converted file is now loaded
  72. into ORGANIZE!

  74. If you are going to convert several MYDATA files, load ORGANIZE!
  75. and rename this catalog.  (The rename feature is on the Utilities
  76. Menu).  If you do not rename the CONVT catalog, then it will be
  77. erased when the next MYDATA file is converted.  Of course, you can
  78. also rename the CONVT catalog so that it uses a name you like
  79. better.
